I hear often that when I am presenting my workshops and events that people leave feeling inspired and motivated to make changes in their lives. I was interested to discover the reason why attending a workshop leads to greater change, than other forms of learning. Keep reading to find out what I discovered!
There are two things that take place when you are in attendance at a workshop or listening to someone speaking at a live event. Words are processed by the language of your brain, and the second thing that takes place is an evaluation of every piece of language that you’re hearing. In other words, the mind is determining what you should do with this new data, and how you should prioritise the information. There is no analog to this in reading. This kind of synergy happens when you are watching the trainer and hearing her voice.
Here is an example of how this takes place:
- Engagement: Every sentence sounds so interesting!
- Curiosity: I hear it in your voice and see it in your face.
- Connection: I trust this person
- Understanding: The emphasis on that word with that hand gesture – now I get it.
- Excitement: Wow – that passion is infectious
- Empathy: I can tell how much that hurt you
- Conviction: Such determination in those eyes!
- Action: I want to be on your team – sign me up!
This is inspiration, in it’s broadest sense. I think of it as dynamic energy that tells the brain what to do with a new idea. Many ideas just get filed away and probably soon get forgotten. Inspiration, by contrast, grabs an idea and rushes it into our minds’ attention spotlight: General alert! Important new worldview incoming! Prepare to activate!
I’ve been practicing Reiki for over 13 years and teaching workshops for many of those years. There is a resonance that happens when your in alignment with your calling, teaching from a place of great love and passion and wanting to make a difference to each and every person. Inspiration follows naturally when you love what you do, and I have seen countless students go on to make really wonderful and positive changes in their lives after they attend one of my workshops.
