Mikao Usui used Byosen Scanning to detect disrupted energy.  As with most skills within the Reiki system learning how to sense this energy takes practice.  Let’s start with what Byosen is and then I’ll outline a simple process you can use to scan and detect disrupted energy.

What is Byosen?  Byosen is a powerful feedback mechanism for the Reiki practitioner.  It tells you where Reiki is in greatest need.  When you have learned how to sense this energy, it can point you to the cause of any given illness.

Learning how to follow your hands to the strongest Byosen requires practice.  When you master detecting and working with the Byosen you will gain a clear understanding of what is happening in the bodies and energy fields of your clients and yourself.

Scanning the body.  Start your Reiki session by scanning your client or yourself, the more you practice doing this, the more you will start to detect the Byosen.

Set the intention.  Start by setting an intention to sense any areas of disharmony in the system, you will be aiming to build your own sensitivity to subtle energies.  Take note of what you feel in your hands and body as well as what thoughts arise in your mind.  Most importantly, have fun.  Aim to have a curious mindset when you start to explore your client’s energy field.

Scan the body.  Slowly run over your body or the client’s body with your hands above the body a few inches, just hovering. I usually start at the head and work my way to the feet. Notice if you feel differences in temperature, the density of the aura, tingly in your hands, simply have a feeling/knowing and as mentioned before if you get any thoughts or messages that pop into your mind.  This is how you are tuning in to see what parts of the body Reiki Reiki.

Treating Byosen with Reiki.  When you feel drawn to a particular area, stay there for a bit and see what you can sense.  Reiki will guide you.  Let the Reiki hands find the Byosen and trust they will know what to do.

I do want to make a note that for my Reiki I level students we start by working with the standard hand positions and treating the whole body so that you can begin to feel comfortable with how Reiki moves through you.  When you have attended my Reiki II classes I speak more about letting your hands and intuition guide you.  This is the practice of sensing the Byosen in the body.

Sensing the Byosen is a skill that can be developed and does allow you to learn how to detect the energy and increase the efficacy of Reiki treatments.

Have fun with scanning next time you give someone or yourself Reiki, and let me know how you go.

I will be teaching this topic in our next Intuitive Reiki Membership Group.  If you’re interested in learning more and extending your Reiki skills and practice, you can join us by emailing me at lisa@intuitivereikiinternational.com or you can learn more here.
